Understanding Regional Variations in Access to Care and Use of Preventive Clinical Services by Hispanics
Kang Min-Ah

Abstract
Despite marked improvements in the health of U.S. citizens during past few decades, racial and ethnic disparities in health and healthcare persist. Numerous studies show that even with access, minorities receive lower quality renal care, cardiac care, cancer care, in addition to fewer preventive services.(Epstein AM, et al, 2000; Peterson E., et al, 1997;
Schulman K., et al, 1999; Escarce J., et al, 1993; Ayanian JZ., et al, 1999) In 2001, the U.S. Bureau of the Census estimated that there were more than 35 million Hispanics living in the continental United States, not including undocumented immigrants.(US Census 2000, 2001) Hispanics are among the youngest and fastest growing populations in the United States, and are projected to become the largest minority group in the country by the year 2010.(US Census 2000, 2001)
